CMYK Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-blacK are the primary colors as they are defined by printing inks which are made up of dyes and pigments. This is the...

Graphic Design equals T-Shirt Design

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Majority of the work I do is Print Design, which is your Business Card, Flyers, Brochures, and Posters ETC. Clients that come though the door usually start off with a logo design which I happily abide to and design stellar logos for. Logos 9 times out of 10 turn to business cards, and also may turn into a brochure design. (Seems like an easy pattern to follow here.) We are finding more and more that since THINK! Offset vs Digital printing

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Offset printing uses CMYK. This process uses ink and plates to transfer an image onto paper. It produces high quality cost effective results for long print runs. A single page A4 brochure would require a minimum quantity of 1000 copies to be cost effective via offset. A colour proof is generated from the approved file to be checked before printing commences, however it is not printed on the chosen stock, so final colour matching is still made ‘on...

D.P.I. or “Dots per Inch” is the measurement used within the printing and graphics design industry to determine how sharp an image is. This low resolution is great for the web because the images look excellent on a computer monitor and the file sizes are very small which helps web pages load faster. However, when designing graphics for commercial printing purposes,...

We can not reproduce a 72dpi image on shirt.  Well we could, but it would look something like this: if 72dpi was a person it would be a jerk. All images from websites are usually 72 dpi, so no, we can not take the logo from your website.  Unless you dont mind that it looks like a mistake.  If you can get a clean high res version of the logo from whoever created it or let us know and we can recreate it for you! 300 dpi is the minimum resolution...

Why did my blue print file turn purple or why did it turn grey when printed?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

This happens more often then not. And I really sympathize with a designer that creates a file properly in CMYK in their graphic design program and then they submit the file for print. Then the print comes back completed and it’s not what they saw on the monitor. First off the blue is already muted because its in CMYK and not RGB and then they look at the finished product and it’s completely the wrong color. So, why is this? Color values...

Water based Screenprinting Inks

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

It seems like people are obsessed with the feel of the print these days.  We offer water based screen printing inks that have a much softer feel than plastisol (you know the plastic thick ink used on most screen printed shirts since the 80′s) especially on light colored shirts. We offered it in the past but the old water based inks were really hard to work with, the ink would dry in the screen and it was so soupy that you couldn’t really...

DIV based design? What the…?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

What do “div’s and style sheets” mean to you? Probably nothing! They are actually a newer way of developing websites that make it easier and cheaper to maintain, update, and add to. Think of it as the “Ipod” of websites as opposed to the “cassette recorder “method that websites are still being made with even today. DIV’s and “style sheets” organize the parameters of each “box” in your website. For...

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

So you don’t know what SEO means?  Don’t feel bad, you’re in the same category as the vast majority of our clientele!  The first thing to ask yourself is what you want the website to do for you.  If you’re like most people the answer to that question is “to make me more money”.  Ok fine but how do we get there from here? You’ll probably hear the term “SEO” or “search engine optimization”...

Why does CMYK matter with print files?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Many of our customers are self made graphic designers or new in the printing field. Our goal is to educate our customers so that the what they see on their monitor is most likely what they will see when they receive their fully printed material. The #1 mistake that see with files submitted or emailed is the file is in RGB format. Let’s back up for just one moment. RGB vs CMYK What is RGB? RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue. These are the colors...

Kind Green At The Office

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

GREEN Not everyone defines “green printing” the same way, there is no standard or certification for what makes a printer, or a given project green. FACT On average a small office of 15 people uses more than 5 tons of paper a year. By using 1 ton of eco-responsible paper, this is the difference your company can make: SAVES 15 fully grown trees 3,164 gallons of water 7 million btu of energy 695 pounds of solid waste 1,170 of greenhouse gasses GREEN...

What Res?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

300dpi. (dots per inch) Our high resolution printer requires all files to be 300dpi. If you design a job at 72dpi or lower we cannot use the file. It will be resized to 300dpi therefore “stretching” the image out. Please schedule an appointment with a designer or email/drop off the information so we can get started! Screenprinting steps

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

First off the art must be a decent resolution to get a good reproduction.  If the art is on paper and scanned, like a painting or a drawing it needs to be scanned at least 300dpi.   If the art is good then we can take it from the computer to the films, splitting the colors up and making it print ready is fun.  We take the films and put them positive side on screens coated with photo emulsion.  We then expose the screens for the appropriate amount...
